The Department of Sustainability and Planning at The Technical Faculty of IT and Design invites applications for a position as assistant professor in the field of the Green Transition as per September 1st, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a full-time position for 2 years.

The department was established in 1975 and is today located in two beautiful harbour-front locations in Aalborg and Copenhagen. We have more than 250 employees and approximately 1,160 students.
Our research and study programmes are rooted in sustainability and the green transition. This means we conduct research in areas such as circular economy, technology, urban-, energy-, and environmental planning, as well as sustainable transition and design. Sustainability is central to our work in environmental assessment and marine management. In surveying and land use, sustainability is reflected in our efforts in nature restoration and climate adaptation.
As society continues to develop digitally, we also focus on responsible technology development, addressing real-life challenges. Problem-based projects and close collaboration with businesses and public organisations form the foundation of all our study programmes. Furthermore, our engineering programmes are among the best in Europe.

Your job responsibilites
As assistant professor of [area of expertise] your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at bachelor's and master’s level, and you will contribute to the develop-ment of the department through research of the international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of the highest international quality, including publication
  • Teaching, guidance and examination of bachelor's and master's degree students, as well as possible supervision of PhD students.
  • Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.
  • Conducting independent and collaborative research on product lifetime extension through reuse, repair and preparation for reuse.
  • Contributing to the development of knowledge that supports practice change and policy making aligned with a transition from traditional waste management towards material efficiency and circularity.

You will report to the Head of Department Anne Merrild.

Your place of work will be the Department of Sustainability and Planning, Copenhagen campus.

Your competences
You have independent research-related qualifications at international level and a PhD degree within waste man-agement and circular economy or a related field. You are a clear communicator, and you have some degree of experience of supervision and teaching at bachelor's and master's degree level. Completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar will be a plus, as will experience with external research collaborations. Besides, re-search stay or employment at one or more internationally recognised research institutions will be a benefit.

Experience with problem-based learning and team-organised student projects is an advantage in the position. Besides, the applicant can expect to be engaged in course and semester coordination.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be able to write and speak English at the academic level. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aalborg University arranges Danish teaching.
In order to be assessed qualified for an assistant professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.

Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.
