At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design of the Department of Sustainability and Planning a position as Postdoctoral researcher in Geoinformatics for 15 min city and micromobility analysis is open for appointment from the 1st of January 2026 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of 18 months with possible extension providing a successful performance and contributions to the research activities of the Geoinformatics and Earth Observation (GEO) research group. The position will be based in Copenhagen.
The department of Sustainability and Planning was established in 1975, and is located in two beautiful harbour-front locations in both Aalborg and Copenhagen. We have more than 250 employees and approximately 1,200 students across the two cities.
Our research and study programmes are rooted in sustainability and the green transition. This means we conduct research in areas such as the circular economy, technology, urban, energy, and environmental planning, as well as sustainable transition and design. Sustainability is central to our work in environmental assessment and marine management. In surveying and land use, sustainability is reflected in our efforts in nature restoration and climate adaptation.
As society continues to develop digitally, we also focus on responsible technological development, addressing real-life challenges. Our problem-oriented approach and close collaboration with businesses and public organisations form the foundation of all our study programmes. Additionally, our engineering programmes are among the best in Europe.
Job description
The task is primarily linked to the PROMISE project and specifically on developing a GIS-based decision support system for 15-min city and micromobility analysis for several European cities. We expect a motivated early career researcher with strong interest and experience with GIS data and tools for urban mobility with some programming skills of Python/R, JavaScript, database management environments, Geographical AI and machine learning workflows. The task can be expanded by contributing to other research projects of the Geoinformatics and Earth Observation (GEO) group, for example on GIS for positive energy districts planning, climate impact modelling, and marine spatial planning aming others.
Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Appointment as postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
