At The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Society and Politics, a position as Associate Professor in Sociology with focus on quantitative methods is open for appointment from April 1, 2026, or soon thereafter. The associate professorship is a permanent position with workplace at our campus in Aalborg, Denmark.
The position should contribute substantially to strengthening the department’s international and national research profile through high-impact sociological research.
We especially welcome candidates with a strong quantitative skillset and expertise using advanced quantitative methods, as well as well as experience utilizing register data, survey data and possibly GIS.
The candidate for the associate professorship may contribute to excellence within one or more of the topics listed below. The list is not exhaustive, and we encourage applicants from other subject-areas of sociology to apply.

Courses are generally taught in Danish and applicants are expected to be able to read students written work in Danish at the moment of employment or within a reasonable timeframe.
It will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL) which is Aalborg University's teaching philosophy
In addition to documented research qualifications at Associate Professor level, applicants must document a relevant PhD degree and publications adhering to the level of the applied position. The successful candidate can present an original and coherent research and impact strategy that connects to the Department’s activities, a well-developed network with the practice field, strong international ties to relevant research communities, and experience in designing and participating in research projects, as well as activities related to attracting external research funding. Furthermore, it is presupposed that the applicants have experience in teaching at bachelor and master level.
Additional qualification requirements
Applicants should illustrate the ability to conduct impactful research on an international level within the given field of research.
It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.
Qualification requirements
Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor but may also be obtained in other ways.
The candidate should contribute to teaching and supervision within the Department’s Sociology programs, focusing on quantitative research designs and methods, sociology of health and illness, and urban/rural sociology along with other relevant topics. Teaching and supervision on other educational programs at the Department should also be expected.
The candidate is expected to actively contribute to the Department’s research activities and pursue external research funding.
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in relevant methods, sociological theories, and empirical research.
